Forest Rise Eco Retreat is proud to be an accredited ecotourism property.
Defined by Eco Tourism Australia, the 'Ecotourism' category is: Tourism in a natural area that offers interesting ways to learn about the environment with an operator that uses resources wisely, contributes to the conservation of the environment and helps local communities.
The natural environment is an important component of the Forest Rise experience, offering seclusion and tranquility to guests and providing recreational opportunities.
Guests are encouraged to experience the surrounding environment by taking one of the three self-guided walk trails using the commentary provided, riding the mountain bikes around the property or bird watching using the binoculars and bird list provided.
To enrich this experience, a booklet on the 'Natural Environment of Forest Rise' has been compiled for each chalet. This booklet includes: 1. Summary of a Land for Wildlife assessment 2. Birdlife Australia survey of the property 3. Information on Aboriginal heritage of the Margaret River region 4. Detailed commentary of the 3 walk trails on the property.
The interpretive commentary for the three self-guided walk trails provides information in the flora, fauna and natural environment along each section of the trail. Interesting features are identified, with interpretive signs providing information on plant species, their value to fauna and commercial uses.
The 4 main ways that Ecotourism is experienced is through:
Interpretation & Education: Ecotourism provides opportunities to experience nature in ways that lead to greater understanding, appreciation and enjoyment.
Contribution to Conservation: Ecotourism positively contributes to the conservation of natural areas.
Working with Local Communities: Ecotourism provides constructive ongoing contribution to local communities.
Cultural Respect and Sensitivity: Ecotourism is sensitive to the value of interpretation and involves different cultures, particulary Indigenous culture.
