At the time that Ross Smith opened the doors of the Colonial Brewing Company in 2004, there were only three breweries in the Margaret River area. Since that time the market has expanded, but the Colonial Brewing Company remains one of the region’s most popular locations. Today, the brewery is owned by the Colonial Leisure Group and they maintain the establishment’s outstanding production of award winning, handcrafted beers that are the favorites of both locals and tourists.
The Colonial Brewing Company is ideally located in an environment that shouts country life and touts a back to nature beauty that captures the hearts of all who visit. It is surrounded by lush rural farmlands and exquisite vineyards, and it’s housed at the edge of the Bramley National Park. The region’s comfortable, year round weather is perfectly suited for outings to the nearby beaches and walking trails before, or after, your visit to the brewery. A day spent in and around the Colonial Brewing Company is like a mini holiday. The brewery is family friendly with a dedicated play area where children enjoy the outdoors while the adults can watch the fun and enjoy the scenic landscape while relaxing with a handcrafted beer on the restaurant’s expansive open air veranda. It is easy to understand why visitors love this place and return as often as they can.
Over the years, the unparalleled quality of the brewery’s handcrafted beers has been recognized numerous times by professional organizations. In 2006 it received the Champion Small Brewery award. That was followed by the Champion Australian Brewery award in 2007. In 2012, the Colonial Brewing Company was a joint winner of the Best Boutique Brewery award presented by the Western Australia Hotels Association. You know there must be something outstanding about the brewery’s beers that has garnered such lauded acknowledgement. But, taste is on the tongue and in the palate of the drinker and you can judge for yourself the delights waiting for you at the brewery. The management and staff thrive on their interactions with repeat and first time customers, sharing stories, and, obviously, talking about beers. If you have a beer question, they have your answer.
The Colonial Brewing Company is open to the public daily from 11 AM to 6 PM, has ample parking spaces, and has facility access for disabled individuals. The restaurant offers a full selection menu that includes starters, fish, burgers, salads, pizza, and an array of plates for children. There are alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages that include their beer specialties, a small selection of local wines, and Bertie Cold Pressed Apple Cider. To accommodate various dietary preferences, they offer several dairy free, gluten free, and vegetarian dishes.
Colonial Brewing Company beers available year round are their Colonial Kolsch, Colonial Pale Ale, and Colonial Witbier. Depending on the time of the year that you visit, there are seasonal beer selections that include the Colonial Indian Pale Ale and the Colonial Porter. There is a limited amount of special beers that include their Colonial Mumme, Colonial Keutebier, Baltic Porter, Colonial Kotbusser, and Colonial Brewing Dampfbier. You can enjoy the brewery’s beers by the glass, from the tap, or in cans. If you aren’t sure which beer to try, have a taste of the full beer range with a Brewers Paddle. If you like what you’re tasting, consider making a takeaway purchase.
