Summer may be winding down, but the events of the season are alive and thriving in Margaret River. So, now is definitely the time to take advantage of one or more of the occasions that make summer in our region so outstanding. During February, you’ll be thrilled with the beauty of our nature trails, our beaches, and the flavours of our regional foods and wines.

But, when you are looking for that one-of-a-kind adventure, that special experience that will be etched into your memory for years to come, we would like to recommend the following end of summer events. We have included driving information from here at Forest Rise Chalets and Lodge, and event contact information where available. Guinness World Record Attempt for World’s Largest Cheese Tasting Event

Guinness World Record Attempt for World’s Largest Cheese Tasting EventHave you ever wondered how history was made? Have you ever thought about being part of history when it happens? Well, you chance is now, right here in the South West of Australia. The Margaret River Dairy Company (MRDC) is hosting what they hope will be the largest ever recorded cheese tasting event, and you are invited to participate on Sunday, February 25th, at 9 AM.

The MRDC want 250, or more, people to simultaneously nibble on their regional cheeses to beat the current world record. The event is free and everyone, of all ages, are welcome. Imagine being able to sample the most tantalising morsels of the dairy world’s most beloved stable; from soft and creamy flavours, to aged favorites that will delight your taste buds. And, you may want to purchase your special cheese to take away and enjoy again at home. All you need to do is register to be part of history in the making on the MRDC website. Even if there are no tasting spaces available, imagine the fun of watching the event take place and joining in on the after event fun and live music.

Getting there: The MRDC is located at 8063 Bussell Highway, Metricup, WA 6280. Because of the anticipated attendance, visitors will be directed to park at the 3 Oceans Wine Company at 8141 Bussell Highway, and there will be shuttle buses to the event that start at 8:45 AM.

The distance from Forest Rise is 11 km  and the travel time is approximately 11 minutes. Travel south on Yelverton Road, turn left on Yelverton-Metricup Road, turn left onto Metricup Road, turn right onto Bussell Highway/State Route 10, and then turn left at your destination that will be on your right. Summer X Salt Markets

The Summer X Salt Markets are the epic series of community focused events that feature the best of Western Australia’s locally known and emerging artisans, designers, surfboard shapers, wineries, breweries, and agricultural superstars. Come out to meet, greet, and enjoy the local businesses that help make Margaret River the exciting region that it has become.

The final Summer X Salt Market of the season is Sunday, February 25th, from 9 AM to 5PM at Surfers Point Road. The event is free, highlighting the beach lifestyle with individual stalls full of mouthwatering food, plus there will be family activities and live music, all ideally situated at the water’s edge. Bring your sense of discovery, a few reusable shopping bags for all of the treasures you’ll want to take away as gifts for friends or for yourself, and have an experience of a lifetime.

Getting there: The event is located at Surfers Point Road, Prevelly, WA 6285. The distance is 38 km and the travel time is approximately 32 minutes from Forest Rise.

Travel south on Bussell Highway/State Route 10 and turn right on Burnside Road, then turn right onto Carters Road, then turn left onto Caves Road, follow Wallcliffe Road to Surfers Point Road. Geographe Bay Race Week

Sailing yachts regattaThe Club Marine’s Geographe Bay Race Week is a not to be missed event for every member of the family. For one week only (from February 18th through to the 23rd – with no racing on Wednesday), you can join the excitement of watching Western Australia’s elite yachting regatta that includes more than 45 colourful yachts in four separate divisions. Spectators can watch the races, marvel at the stunning scenery, enjoy the best of local food and wines, and have an adventure that will replay time and again for years to come.

You can watch all of the spectacular displays of this year’s yacht racing from the historic Busselton Jetty and foreshore. You can come on one particular day, or you can venture down to the jetty every day of the race. Super exciting fun for the entire family!

Getting there: The most advantageous location to watch the races is from the Busselton Jetty, Busselton, WA 6280. The distance 27.3 km and the travel time is approximately 27 minutes from Forest Rise.

Travel north on Bussell Highway/State Route 10 to West Busselton, turn left onto Fairway Drive, then turn right onto Bussell Highway, turn left onto West Street, turn right onto Marine Terrace, at the roundabout take the exit onto Foreshore Parade, and 3L Queen Street will be on your left.
